Mi investigación se basa en el estudio de sucesiones sedimentarias carbonatadas y enriquecidas en materia orgánica, principalmente del Mesozoico, depositadas durante lapsos de tiempo en los que ocurrieron episodios de cambio global acelerado. Mediante el estudio de campo de los rasgos litológicos y sedimentológicos, y de laboratorio de las características petrográficas, texturales, paleontológicas y geoquímicas (composición mineral y química elemental, isótopos de carbono y oxígeno), descifro las condiciones paleoambientales de depósito de dichas sucesiones y discierno entre los mecanismos locales/regionales y globales que les dieron lugar. Utilizo métodos bioestratigráficos y geocronológicos para fechar estas rocas y correlacionarlas con los depósitos de otras cuencas sedimentarias. También realizo investigaciones en la Cuenca de Guaymas (Golfo de California), en donde me intereso en la interacción sedimento-agua, especialmente en zonas de actividad hidrotermal submarina.
