Estudio de la diversidad microbiana y sus funciones en el suelo, agua superficial y subterránea, así como en sistemas biomineralizantes y biorreactores. Búsqueda de bacterias y arqueas encargadas de procesos biogeoquímicos como nitrificación, desnitrificación, anammox, damo, metanogénesis, metanotrofía, sulfato reducción, y fijación de carbono, entre otros. Empleo de marcadores moleculares para detección de contaminación ambiental y monitoreo. Responsable del Laboratorio del Genómica y Biotecnología del Instituto de Geología, UNAM.
